Overview

The Ur-Quan Hierarchy has defeated the Alliance of Free Stars, encasing Earth in a massive, impenetrable slave-shield. You are the commander of a massive, ancient Precursor flagship, secretly constructed on a distant colony, and you represent humanity's last, desperate hope for freedom.

You must explore a massive galaxy containing over 500 stars, mine planets for resources to upgrade your flagship, and engage in fast-paced, arcade-style "Super Melee" space combat. Most importantly, you must use diplomacy to recruit a bizarre cast of alien species—from the cowardly Spathi to the hyper-aggressive Ilwrath—to rebuild an armada capable of defeating the Ur-Quan.

Behind The Scenes

An Open Universe
Designed by Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford (under the studio name Toys for Bob), the game offered unprecedented freedom. It didn't hold your hand or force you down a linear path; you were dropped into a living, breathing galaxy with a dynamic timeline where alien wars happened in the background whether you intervened or not.

Masterful Writing
Star Control II is universally revered for its incredible dialogue trees. The writing oscillates seamlessly between laugh-out-loud comedy and deep, existential sci-fi horror. The universe felt rich, weird, and totally cohesive, cementing its legacy as one of the greatest PC games of all time.
